Serving Veterans: Mr. Thomas

Mr. Thomas is an 8-year Army Veteran. While serving in combat in Afghanistan he suffered severe injuries from a 280 lb Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Fractures in his right leg eventually got infected and his leg had to be amputated just above the knee. After 86 operations, 6 pulmonary embolisms, dying on the table 3 times, and spending 5 years at Walter Reed Hospital, Mr. Thomas finally recovered enough to leave the hospital.

He is originally from Tennessee but he and his wife moved to Deer Park with plans to start a family. Although he had leaks in his roof, more concerning was that he was falling nearly every day in his house due to the poor condition of the flooring. Thanks to a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission, we were able to repair the roof and floor, improve the bathroom and kitchen, and replace the back door.
