The US Army asks individuals to find their paths and to leave their mark. Mr Flanagan did just that and enlisted in the US Army, served in Fort Carlson, Colorado, then joined an infantry unit in Germany. He fought, he served, and he is a true American veteran.

Fast forward to In 2017, Mr. Flanagan fought a new war called Harvey. His home of sixteen years was beat on and beat up. It did not flood, but Harvey took its toll on the Flanagan family. Mr. Flanagan’s wife of thirty-four years, Simone, stood by Glen’s side, and they fought for their home day and night, calling local and national agencies looking for help without any thoughts of giving up on their family home.

After countless rejections and runarounds for help, the Flanagan’s googled veteran needing Harvey help, and a shining light was turned on. Rebuilding Together reached out with the appropriate applications, followed up with home inspectors to assess the home damage and needs. It also brought in the appropriate contractors to estimate the work needed and the time to get it done. The stress of Harvey was losing its grip on the Flanagan family.

Then the Coronavirus hit. The project timeline was in turmoil as volunteer work had come to a halt, especially in our senior citizens' homes. Rebuilding Together did not give up and looked at the work that needed to be done and prioritized the projects beginning with a new roof followed by mold removal and all new sheetrock installed. Electrical challenges were addressed, and the Flanagan’s lives were back to normal.

The Flanagan house is a home again with two grandsons living with them. The neighborhood is buzzing with the sight of the new roof and remodeled home. Pride has returned to their home in Humble, TX The final exclamation point is the 12-year-old grandson pointing out the photo of his grandfather in his Army uniform above the TV, and he proudly tells the world, “I’m going to be like my grandpa and join the Army!” Go and find your path, young man; the world is waiting.
