At Rebuilding Together, we believe that everyone deserves a safe home and community. We work to serve our neighbors in need with home repair assistance to bolster their neighborhoods and strengthen our Houston community.

All repairs completed by Rebuilding Together Houston are at NO COST to the homeowner. Rebuilding Together will not put a lien on your property. Rebuilding Together staff and contractors will never ask you for money.

Who we serve: Our home repair program qualifications ar based on homeowner income. There is no age requirement, but because many elderly members of our community live on a low income, many of the people we serve are seniors. We also provide services for qualifying working families and US military veterans.

Service areas: One of our programs is designed to serve the under-resourced East End and Third Ward communities, but we also serve rural areas of Harris County and Brazoria County, our Freeze/Extreme Heat program reaches a variety of areas, and we provide a variety of repair services for US military veterans throughout Harris County. Freeze/Extreme Heat Relief

Low income homeowners: contact us to qualify for the installation of a heat/air conditioner window unit. You must live in one of the following Zip Codes:

• East End Area: 77003, 77011, 77012, 77023

• Third Ward Area: 77004

• Near Northside Area: 77009, 77022

• Fifth Ward Area: 77020, 77026

• Sunnyside Area: 77033

What you need to know about the application and repair process:

• The Rebuilding Together application is a 2 step process, both the homeowner and the home must qualify. If either the home or the homeowner does not qualify, Rebuilding Together will not be able to complete repairs.

• The services provided by Rebuilding Together are completed at no cost to the homeowner. Rebuilding Together will not put a lien on your home. Rebuilding Together contractors and employees will not ask you for money.

• The work completed by Rebuilding Together contractors and volunteers is designed to return your home to a safe and livable condition--not to make cosmetic or convenience upgrades or to return it to prior conditions.

• In order to serve as many of our neighbors as possible to meet the requirements of our grants, repairs are chosen in priority order to focus on your safety. Repairs are limited. 

• Not all programs include repairs to electrical or plumbing systems. If your system is repaired, Rebuilding Together must bring the entire system up to code, even if the system is not damaged. This is required by law.

1. SCREENING: HOME OWNER QUALIFICATION + HOME ELIGIBILITY 

RTH has a 2-Step qualification process.  There is no guarantee that your home will receive repairs from RTH until your application has gone through all steps of the RTH qualification process.

First Step:  Qualification of the Homeowner

This includes completion of an application and receipt of all the supporting documentation listed on the first page of the application document.  Once all documents are received and vetted by our Client Services Coordinator, the application will move to Step 2.

Second Step:  Qualification of the Home

A RTH Housing Inspector will visit the home to identify the extent of repairs required to return the home to a “safe and livable condition”.  During that meeting, the homeowner will acknowledge that they understand what work may be completed. Not all homes will be qualified. 

2. CONTRACTOR WORK

For some homes, professional contractors will perform roofing, electrical, plumbing, and technical work called for by the inspector.  For homes receiving contractor work, contractors will need to visit your home to see the scope of work.  Once the work is awarded to a contractor, the inspector and the contractor will meet with the homeowner to review the scope of work in detail, and agree on the start date.  The homeowner will sign, indicating they understand the scope of work.

3. INSPECTION OF CONTRACTOR WORK

When all specified work is complete, a Rebuilding Together housing inspector will deliver a completion report for homeowner review and signature.

Warranties will be provided by contractors for certain aspects of work (e.g. roofs).

4. VOLUNTEER WORK

For most homes, after contract work is complete, volunteers will complete the exterior work. If your home is selected for the program, your crew leader will visit with you prior to working on your home with volunteers. 

There may be a delay between the completion of contractor work and the beginning of volunteer work. Volunteer generally work in the spring and in the fall, when the outside temperatures are comfortable. Volunteers generally do not work during the summer or during the winter holiday season.

In certain cases, the home may be reassigned to an additional crew of volunteers to complete unfinished tasks.
